Instructions
-
Thicken the Sauce: In a small separate bowl or cup, whisk the cornstarch into the water until it’s completely dissolved and no lumps remain. Pour this slurry into the sauce mixture and stir to incorporate.
-
Assemble: Lightly coat the insert of your slow cooker with nonstick spray. Arrange the chicken pieces in a single layer at the bottom.
-
Cook: Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the chicken, covering it as much as possible. Cover with the lid and cook until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
-
For Faster Cooking: 3 hours on the High setting.
-
For Slower Cooking: 5 hours on the Low setting.
-
-
Serve & Enjoy: Once cooked, you can serve the chicken directly from the pot. For a thicker glaze, carefully transfer the chicken to a serving platter, pour the sauce into a saucepan, and simmer on the stovetop for 5-10 minutes until reduced to your desired consistency. Spoon the reduced sauce over the chicken and serve.
Chef’s Notes
-
Spice Level: The red pepper flakes add a subtle heat. Use 1/2 teaspoon for a spicier kick or omit them entirely for a milder flavor.
-
Sauce Thickness: The cornstarch helps thicken the sauce during cooking. If you prefer an even thicker, glaze-like consistency, reducing it on the stovetop at the end is highly recommended.
