  1. Prep the Cabbage Boil whole head 2–3 minutes, peel off softened leaves. Repeat until you have 12–14. Trim thick veins.
  2. Make the Filling Mix meats, rice, onion, garlic, egg, and seasonings. Don’t overmix. Taste-test a small portion if desired.
  3. Make the Sauce SautĂŠ onion and garlic in butter. Add tomato paste, then remaining sauce ingredients. Simmer 10 minutes.
  4. Assemble Rolls Place 2–3 tbsp filling on each leaf. Fold sides in and roll tightly. Line dish with extra leaves if needed.
  5. Bake Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour ½ cup sauce in dish, add rolls seam-side down, top with remaining sauce. Cover and bake 75–90 minutes.
  6. Serve Let rest 10 minutes. Spoon sauce over rolls and garnish with parsley or sour cream.
