Mississippi Sin Dip

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the top off the bread loaf and carefully hollow out the inside, creating a “bread bowl.” Tear the removed bread and the top into bite-sized pieces for dipping. Set aside.

  2. Mix the Base: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and shredded cheddar cheese. Using a hand mixer (or a sturdy spatula if mixing by hand), beat until the mixture is smooth and well combined.

  3. Add the Mix-Ins: Using a spatula, gently fold in the diced ham, diced green chiles (with their juices), sliced green onions, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until everything is evenly distributed.

  4. Assemble & Bake: Spoon the dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl. Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet. If desired, you can place the extra bread pieces around the bowl on the sheet to toast them.

  5. Bake: Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and lightly golden on top. The bread bowl should be crusty.

  6. Serve: Carefully remove from the oven. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Place the bread bowl on a platter surrounded by the toasted bread pieces, crackers, or chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Bread Choice: A sturdy, crusty loaf is traditional, but many love the sweet and savory contrast of using a King’s Hawaiian bread round.

  • Customize It: Feel free to get creative! You can substitute the ham with cooked sausage, crumbled bacon, or even use a different cheese like Monterey Jack or a pepper jack for a little spice.

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the dip mixture up to a day in advance. Store it covered in the refrigerator, then fill the bread bowl and bake when ready to serve. You may need to add a few extra minutes to the baking time if the dip is cold from the fridge.
