Miami lottery player scores $1 million win; $1.6B jackpot still up for grabs

Saturday night’s winning numbers were 4-5-28-52-69 and the Powerball was 20.

After three months with no winner, the jackpot has soared to an estimated $1.6 billion. The last jackpot reached $1.78 billion in September and was split between winners in Missouri and Texas.

Powerball said this is the second time in history that back-to-back jackpots have produced prizes over $1 billion.

Dec. 22’s jackpot will be the fourth-largest in Powerball history after surpassing a 2016 prize of $1.58 billion. If a winner is selected on Monday, they’ll have the choice between an annuitized prize over 30 years or a lump sum of roughly $735.3 million before taxes.

Any lottery winner has to pay the 24% federal tax on their winnings, but since Florida does not have an income tax, that’s the only tax you’d have to pay.

The next Powerball drawing will be Monday, Dec. 22 at 10:59 p.m.
