Homemade Sloppy Joe
Instructions
1. Prepare the Bread:
-
Toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Keep a close eye to prevent burning. Remove from the oven and set aside.
2. Cook the Filling:
-
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper. Break up the meat with a spoon and cook until the beef is browned and the vegetables are tender.
-
Drain any excess grease from the skillet and reduce the heat to low.
3. Make the Sauce:
-
To the skillet, add the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and yellow mustard. Stir until everything is well combined.
-
Let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
4. Assemble and Melt the Cheese:
-
Spoon the hot Sloppy Joe mixture evenly over the cheesy bread. Top each one with another slice of American cheese.
-
Broil for another 30 seconds to melt the top layer of cheese.
5. Serve:
-
Serve immediately while hot and enjoy the gooey, savory deliciousness
