Homemade Sausage Pie

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate.

  2. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the pork sausage until it’s no longer pink and is fully cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

  3. Add Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage and cook for 1 more minute, until fragrant. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.

  4. Assemble the Base: Stir 2 cups of the shredded Monterey Jack cheese into the cooked sausage and garlic mixture. Transfer this mixture into the greased pie plate and spread it into an even layer.

  5. Make the Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, biscuit mix, sage, and pepper until the mixture is well combined.

  6. Bake: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the sausage and cheese in the pie plate. Place the pie plate in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

  7. Add Final Cheese: Remove the pie from the oven and sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of cheese evenly over the top. Return it to the oven for 1-2 more minutes, just until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

  8. Rest and Serve: Let the pie stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows it to set perfectly for clean slices.

Enjoy this delicious, hearty pie warm!
