Florida Shrimp Cheddar Pie – A Sunshine State Classic 🌴🦐🥧

Ingredients

  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust

  • 1 lb fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined, and tails removed

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • ½ cup green bell pepper, diced

  • ½ cup celery, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • ½ cup milk

  • 3 large eggs

  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prep & Preheat: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and set it on a baking sheet for easy handling.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened and fragrant. Remove from heat.

  3. Create the Custard: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, milk, eggs, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper until the mixture is completely smooth and well-combined.

  4. Assemble the Pie: Spread the sautéed vegetable mixture evenly over the bottom of the pie crust. Scatter the raw shrimp over the vegetables. Carefully pour the custard mixture over everything, ensuring it seeps into the filling.

  5. Add the Cheesy Topping: Sprinkle the shredded sharp Cheddar cheese evenly over the entire surface.

  6. Bake to Perfection: Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes, or until the center is set, the top is a beautiful golden brown, and the edges of the crust are crisp.

  7. Serve: Allow the pie to cool and set for at least 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy the taste of the coast!
