Fantastic Plum Swirls – You Absolutely Have to Try Them!

These soft, sweet swirls are filled with a spiced plum compote and chopped almonds. They fill your kitchen with an incredible aroma and are absolutely worth the effort!

Yields: 6 large swirls
Prep time: 30 minutes (+ 1 hour rising)
Bake time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 250 g all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting

  • 125 ml lukewarm milk

  • 20 g fresh yeast (or 1 packet/7g dry active yeast*)

  • 2 tablespoons sugar, divided

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter, cooled slightly

  • 1 egg yolk

For the Filling:

  • 350 g plums (such as Zwetschgen), pitted and chopped

  • 3 tablespoons sugar, divided

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves

  • 30 g chopped almonds

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

For Finishing:

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter, divided

  • Baking paper

*If using dry active yeast, add it to the lukewarm milk and 1 tbsp sugar and let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy before proceeding.
