Country’s White Bread

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water. Let it stand for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. Make the Dough: To the yeast mixture, add the egg, sugar, salt, and oil. Mix well. Gradually add 2 ½ cups of flour, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 5-7 minutes, adding the remaining flour as needed, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to coat. Cover with a clean cloth and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Shape the Loaf: Punch down the dough. Knead it briefly, then shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.

  6. Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the dough rise again for 1 hour, until it domes over the top of the pan.

  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped.

  8. Cool: Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
